Mike Johnson is an American attorney and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Louisiana’s 4th congressional district since 2017.
He is currently the nominee of the House Republican Conference for Speaker of the House in the October 2023 speakership election.
Johnson was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from Louisiana State University and the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center.
After law school, Johnson served as a clerk for Judge Edith H. Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He then practiced law at a private firm in Shreveport, where he specialized in constitutional law.

In 2015, Johnson was elected to the Louisiana State House of Representatives. He served one term in the state legislature before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2016.
